GPS IIR-16 (M) is the third of the modernized GPS satellites, incorporating various improvements to provide greater accuracy, increased resistance to interference and enhanced performance for users. It was launched aboard a Delta II 7925-9.5 vehicle on November 17, 2006 at 14:12 EST from Space Launch Complex 17A at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, FL.

As the Delta II approaches the midpoint of the groundstart SRB burn, the aerostart nozzles can be seen. The groundstart boosters burnout as the separation sequence begins. The aerostart SRB's fire as the groundstart booster separation proceeds.
